Toothpaste/Deodorant

DeodorantIMG_8121

Recipe:

1/2 cup coconut oil
1/4 cup org. baking soda
1/8 cup diatomaceous earth
1/8 cup arrow root powder
20-30 drops of peppermint essential oil
Blend with hand mixer or immersion blender until creamy.

Makes 2- 2oz jars. Store in the fridge until you are ready to use. (I keep “extras” in the fridge and the opened jar in my bathroom)

For toothpaste: I use approximately ½ teaspoon on my toothbrush

For deodorant: I use approximately ¼ teaspoon or less for BOTH underarms

I like this recipe because baking soda tends to be too alkalizing. Keith could not use the one to one ratio of coconut oil and baking soda as a deodorant. It caused him to severely break out under the arm. DE is less alkalizing and therefore more gentle. The arrow root helps keep the whole thing more stable in warm weather.

ANOTHER OPTION:

1/2 cup coconut oil
1/4 cup org. baking soda
1/8 cup diatomaceous earth
2 Tbl. Calcium bentonite clay
25-35 drops of peppermint essential oil
Blend with hand mixer or immersion blender until creamy.

As you can see, this version is slightly green due to the bentonite clay.  The clay also helps stabilize the mixture so the arrow root can be eliminated.  I put a few extra drops of essential oil to help with taste.
